Solana gaming L2 Sonic has announced a partnership with Neon Stack to bring EVM compatibility to the Sonic Virtual Machine (SVM). The collaboration will make it easy for Ethereum developers to launch EVM-powered dapps on Sonic’s gaming-optimized HyperGrid L2.
Sonic’s scalable L2 is designed to support high-volume dapps including web3 games with settlement occurring on Solana L1. The partnership with Neon Stack will make it easy for Ethereum developers to migrate EVM-based dapps to Solana, enabling Ethereum-native transactions on SVM.
Davide Menegaldo, Chief Commercial Officer with Neon Stack, said: “Our collaboration with Sonic demonstrates a market interest in Neon Stack and provides a production-ready tool to expand Sonic’s total addressable market by orders of magnitude. With this collaboration, our technology is adopted for the first time by a pioneering team in the gaming industry, representing a new use case in this vertical and another step into the SVM L2 ecosystem.”
Chris Zhu, Chief Executive Officer with Sonic, added: “Our effort to expand the Solana gaming ecosystem isn’t limited to the SVM. With Neon Stack, we’re able to onboard web3 games built on EVMs and bring them onto the Solana ecosystem. Solana has one of the most active and engaging user bases in the blockchain industry, and we’re excited to enable EVM developers to be able to tap into this vibrant community via Sonic’s L2.”
Sonic has been engineered to solve the problem of blockchain gaming fragmentation, which has compelled developers to focus on a single network and VM to the exclusion of other web3 gaming communities. The SVM overcomes these limitations, providing a fast, scalable, and VM-agnostic framework for developers to release games that realize the full potential of web3.
Sonic utilizes HyperGrid technology for horizontal scaling, allowing it to handle millions of requests per second that are settled on Solana L1. This combines the speed and throughput of the Sonic L2 with the security and strong finality that is inherent to Solana.
The partnership between Sonic and Neon Stack will unite the formerly siloed ecosystems of Ethereum and Solana, providing a general-purpose framework where developers are unconstrained by technical limitations. Representatives of the Sonic and Neon Stack teams are scheduled to appear at EthCC in Brussels, where they will be discussing the advancements being made in this field and the possibilities this unlocks for web3 gaming.
